John Riley
Principal

John Riley began his career and love for music as a drummer in the Southwest Michigan area. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Marketing at Western Michigan University in 1971, John opened a new electronics retail store in Kalamazoo for Lafayette Radio. That is where John met Glen Cordial and they worked as store managers for several years together.

In 1976, both John and Glen joined John's father's rep firm, Riley&Petchell Sales just as the Live Sound and Music Recording business began to blossom. Musicians like Ted Nugent, Bob Seeger, Tommy James, Grand Funk, Stevie Wonder and the Motown Sound were putting the Michigan music scene on the map. In 1979, John accepted a position with Charlie Wicks at ProCo Sound in Kalamazoo to help him launch this fledgling cable company and grow it into a $4M business in just 4 years.

In September, 1984 John got a call from Glen saying he was leaving Riley&Petchell Sales to join a newer Michigan rep company, Key Marketing, to rep some exciting new lines, including Alpine Car Stereo and Infinity speakers.Four months later, John joined back up with Glen there to rep both Consumer Audio and Pro Audio lines.

In 1988, Key Marketing agreed for John & Glen to split off the Pro Audio lines, start their own rep firm, Cordial/Riley Marketing, and worked to establish their company as one of Michigan's best.On New Year's Eve, 1990, John set up his vintage 1963 Roger's kit and played his last gig at the St. Joe Yacht Club.(After 25 years of playing weekends, his hearing finally returned to “normal” six months later.) Now with weekends clear, John traded his pair of 5A hickory sticks for a different kind of stick - a laminated Sherwood 7000 “Chelios” model and picked up a pair of used Bauer 2000's to nurture his 3 kid's hockey careers as a practice and defense coach for the next 10 years- - between trade shows.

From 1988 to 2005, CRM earned over 35 sales awards from their various manufacturers, including back-to-back Rep of the Year awards from Bose Pro along with Sony Pro's “Remarkable Rep” award 5 years in a row.In September, 2005, after some dramatic changes in the rep business, John & Glen decided to grow their company by merging with Mark Taylor & Mike Wuellner to form OnlineCRM in Michigan.
